What Are Dental Sealants?
A dental sealant is a clear material that’s carefully painted and bonded onto your tooth’s surface. This treatment “seals” the pits and grooves of your teeth, keeping bacteria from getting caught in the crevices and damaging your enamel!
Here at Brimfield Family Dentistry, our dental sealants are made from an ultra-thin, non-toxic resin and are great for patients of all ages, but we often recommend this as a great option for children’s first permanent back teeth.
What to Expect
A tooth sealant treatment is fast, non-invasive, and a great add-on treatment to a dental cleaning. Here’s how it works:
- We’ll polish each tooth to start with a clean surface
- Next, it’s time to paint a thin layer of protective resin on the surface of your teeth
- Wait about an hour before drinking or eating anything
- Enjoy years of protection against decay!
Don’t Neglect your Toothbrush & Floss!
A dental sealant doesn’t mean you can stop practicing good oral hygiene habits. Remember to brush and floss at least twice a day and schedule your regular dental exams and cleanings every 6 months.
